About this event
The CSAA Conference is traditionally preceded by a Prefix Day, designed for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students/candidates and Early Career Researchers (ECR).
Come and meet your fellow peers in a more relaxed environment, hear from some senior researchers about topics relevant to your stage in career, and connect with colleagues in a smaller setting before the main conference starts.
Where and When is Prefix?
Prefix is run by the Gender and Sexuality Studies Research Network of Deakin University and will be held at the Deakin Downtown Campus on November 30th 2022 from 9am until 5pm.
Who can register/attend?
All Higher Degree by Research students/candidates and Early Career Researchers attending CSAA Conference 2022 are invited to attend for free. However, you must register here, separately to the main conference, so we can adjust catering and for those joining online so we can provide Zoom links.
The day was traditionally designed for HDR students/candidates and ECRs but others have always attended this event who fall outside these categories, sometimes in part because of the changing academic job market. These include, for example, Honours students, Masters by coursework students, Early Career Teachers, Mid-Career academics without full employment, etc. Basically, if you are a CSAA delegate who is not in a continuing or tenure-tracked position and you feel Prefix is useful then we welcome you to register. However, please be aware that presenters may not always speak directly to your circumstance or level of experience.
What is in the Prefix program?
We’re providing the draft program here to give an indication of what will happen on the day. Once we have finalised the speakers we will update the program closer to the event.

Accessibility
- The venue is wheelchair accessible and there is one accessible toilet.
- The event is held in-person at Deakin Downtown Campus, but we will also run Zoom channels to broadcast some of the talks/panels. We will endeavour to make this as smooth an experience as possible, but please understand that interaction may not be as smooth online.
- Parents/carers are welcome to bring their babies/toddlers/children/little people to Prefix. We cannot provide child minding/caring services. However, we will make it clear on the day that parents/carers and their little ones are welcome.
Additional details may be added as we receive registrations and find out more about delegates’ accessibility requirements.
